Pedro Javier Torres Hernandez

I am a doctor and a Oaxacan professor interested in knowing the culture and natural richness of Mexico and especially of the eight regions of Oaxaca. For 28 years, I have collaborated with Mexican tourists from all over the country as well as tourists from other countries (Italy, France, United Kingdom, Spain among others) as well as students and professors from various universities in the United States and Canada, accompanying them to the most important cultural and natural sites in Mexico and Oaxaca.

I am a retired professor of Anthropology and Archaeology. For two decades, I traveled back to the state of Oaxaca to learn all I could about the wonderfully diverse culture that makes Oaxaca unique. Six years ago, my wife and I moved into a house in a small village outside of the city where I continue my research into the Zapotec people of the central valleys. I wrote the book "The Day of the Dead: When Two Worlds Meet in Oaxaca" (Berghahn Books, NYC) and have given lectures about the Day of the Dead all over the world.
